The situation concerning Covid 19 is changing rapidly as I am sure you are aware. It was only a couple of days ago that we wrote to say that we would be having services but that the common cup and the exchange of the peace would be omitted. Since then we have seen schools closed for an extended time, classes at colleges and universities cancelled and many theatrical and sporting events cancelled or postponed.
It is consistent with this that the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario have decided to suspend all public worship services effective this Sunday, March 15th. This will be in place until April 8 at which time they will reassess. I am attaching the letter from our Bishop, Todd Townshend, outlining the details.
Our worship together is at the very heart of our community. We need to find ways to support each other at this very difficult time. As much as this is difficult for all of us, my hope is that the sacrifices we are making now will contribute to lessening the spread of the virus.
Please continue to pray for those afflicted by this crisis; those who are sick and those who are tending to the sick as well as those whose jobs and livelihood has been affected and the anxiety they are facing.
I will keep you up to date on all developments as this unfolds.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. Stephen Berryman,
Rector, St. John’s, Cambridge.
